Junior
Tour Guide is a unique workshop designed to help students enhance their English communication skills while exploring the rich history of Old Beijing. Participants will learn engaging storytelling techniques and develop the confidence to introduce famous landmarks, traditions, and cultural customs of Beijing in English.
本研修班非常适合对北京历史充满热情、渴望在文化环境中练习英语并有兴趣学习如何与国际游客分享文化故事的中小学生。
This workshop is perfect for elementary school and middle school students who are passionate about Beijing’s history and eager to practice English in a cultural setting and interested in learning how to share cultural stories with international visitors.

For the first week, we’ll discover Hutong’s charm in its sounds.
What kind of memories can we have: Sound, stories, places, smell, senses. That’s what we will explore in this series of classes.
Today, we focus on SOUND.
• What kind of SOUNDS do you like?
• What makes SOUND different from other senses?
• Introducing SOUNDS from Old Beijing
大家将从纪录片、短片中了解一些独特的老北京之声，如抖空竹、鸽哨、京剧等。在音频或视频之后，学生将回答一些问题，描述他的感受。比如从视频记住了什么，对声音有什么感觉等。
I will be showing the kids short clips of documentaries or unique sound introductions, such as Kongzhu, Pigeon whistles, Peking Operas, and more. After each audio or video clip, I will ask the students questions like: Do you like it? What do you remember from the video? How do you feel when you hear it?
讲师会用简单明了的英语解释每个声音的背景，必要时还会用中文进行解释。课后，学生们的 “工具包 ”里就会有 5-6 种北京的声音，以及相关词汇和声音背后的故事。
Following that, I will explain the background of each sound in simple or straightforward English and, if necessary, provide explanations in Chinese. Then, the students will have 5-6 sounds of Peking in their toolkits, along with relevant vocabulary and stories behind the sound.
例如，在讨论鸽哨时，学生会了解到，虽然鸽子在世界各地都有饲养，用于休闲或交流，但鸽子身上的哨子和哨子的制作是北京独有的，是北京人记忆的一部分。这是一种非常巧妙而精致的文化遗产。
For example, when discussing the pigeon whistle, I will explain that while pigeons are kept worldwide for leisure or communication, the whistles on the pigeons and the making of the whistles are unique to Beijing and are part of Beijingers’ memories. It’s a very crafty and delicate cultural heritage.

Course plan:
- Teacher Anvilla will briefly introduce the course content, and then we
will each introduce ourselves. Students attending the workshop are encouraged
to prepare a short introduction in English! - As a tour guide, learning and memorising new knowledge is important.
This session will allow you to learn more about the stories behind the sounds
of Old Beijing! - The documents containing the stories of these sounds will be handed
out to you, and we will read them out loud together! It’s best if our voices
can travel from No. 93 Courtyard to the hutong and attract more people to come
in and visit! - Then, it’s time to split up and prepare. Teacher Anvilla will take
turns to tutor everyone. - Before the final recording, there will be a rehearsal, giving students
the chance to adjust body language. - Record as the first Junior English-speaking Tour
